5 man etiqutte

"Ok guys, were about to pull the boss.", says our intrepid tank. "Umm..huntard's in combat",replies the healer. "Apparently somewhere down the hall". Tank mutters the serenity prayer....

Guys I'm here to help you not make your fellow puggers want to play this song. I'll make it a quick post as these rules are basic and simple.

Tanks-

1. You set the pace. Read your healer and dps from the first couple of pulls. If they're ADHD it can be very hard to reign them in, so pull as quick as you can to keep them focused.

2. That being said don't be forced into bad pulls. If a dps is that antsy and pulls warn them once then let them die the next time IMHO.

3. Warn your healer before big pulls so they can be prepared.

4. Keep an eye out for people needing mana and call a mana break if necessary. Mana users love tanks that actually give a rat's ass :)

Healers-

1. Try to match pace with the tank and keep good communication.

2. Always let the tank know if you are in need of mana. A few seconds drinking is infinitely better than a corpse run.

3. Keep your head on a swivel. Pats and face pulls do sometimes happen. Be prepared to save your little dps friends. However, I'll give you the same advice I give tanks. If a dps purposely pulls more than once let them die.

Dps-

1. Keep pace with the tank, but don't outpace them

2. Be ready with CC or cleanses if asked.

3. Mages, just make the water..*sigh*

4. DON'T PULL FFS! (sorry, that comes from tanking)

It's fairly simple to have a quick clean run with these rules being followed. Also, be respectful in party chat. A good attitude goes a long way.

  1. "DON'T PULL FFS!" - This is the main reason I stopped tanking in Wrath. DPS were so impatient that I was never given a chance to learn. I did a ton of normal dungeons to try and get a hang of tanking and asked groups if they thought I was ready for heroics. When enough of them thought I was ready I tried it out. I'm definitely a slower paced tank because I don't do it very often, so when DPS go out of their way to be a douche I vote to kick, and if it doesn't go through I drop group.

  2. I'll say this off the back - these are very general ground rules that are awesome to keep in mind. For those people who primarily are tanks, these are pretty much second nature to you all... but to those who are plate wearing DPS who get asked to tank... it's something we have to keep fresh in our minds.

With that said... I'm really tired of going into dungeons and not getting buffed by a Pally before the first pull. I can understand sometimes it getting crazy and pulling before you know everybody is ready... but not buffing after the 3rd or 4th pull? Completely unacceptable in my mind.

Also, one thing that's my major pet peeve as a tank is people DPSing on a boss from the front. When I started learning how to tank, I was told from day 1 to turn the mob/boss away from the group. I was in a run today with a warrior DPS that was number 1 on the chart. We're doing H FoS... and we get to the Devourer of Souls and so I go to turn the boss away from the group... and the warrior is stacking on me. I'm getting to the point where I've created a macro that lists my ground rules as a tank when I get into a group and I won't hesitate to leave.

A bit over zealous on my part, but whatever. Thanks for the guide! :)

As a holy Pally, I get really annoyed at tanks that take off as soon as they drop into the dungeon and don't even wait for buffs. One didn't even wait until my loading screen had finished loading ... by the time I appeared inside the instance, he was dead. *sigh* So, tanks ... at least check before the first pull to make sure everyone is present and buffs have gone out, please.

As a tank .. well, I won't even tank a real random. There are just too many idiots who are in a big hurry and want to pull for me. So I always take guildies with me, preferably my own healer.
